Blues drumming - style and feel
What is Blues drumming? It's not just about keeping time; it's about understanding where the music is coming from. In this session, we will discuss blues drumming techniques, how to drive or hold back, and blues phrases that every drummer should know.

Rudiments - contemporary use
Rudiments evolved through marching and parade drumming. What use are they to the contemporary rock or blues drummer? Is there any point to a paradiddle? You will find out...

Hi Hat patterns and techniques
The way a drummer plays the hi hat can make or break the feel of a tune. We can always practice hi hat patterns but what about feel, and what about technique? Can studying the Moeller technique help hi hat playing? The answers await....

Twin pedal - yes or no?
“Don’t bother with two pedals until you learn to play one!” Is this a good philosophy? Why have two sticks on the snare and toms but only one beater on the bass? Should every beginner’s kit come with a twin pedal? Let’s discuss!...

The Tutors
Colin Woolway - A professional drummer who toured the world for 20 years, including eight years as Suzi Quatro's drummer, and then he hung up the touring boots to concentrate on teaching. This resulted in a very busy teaching studio, the aforementioned books, a percussion video and more recently, the Drumsense Teaching Project. He also used to write an educational column, called Teasers, each month for Rhythm magazine, the UK produced drummers magazine. Now, however, he writes the Getting Started column in Rhythm magazine.
