Guys,
What can I say?
Having been playing for longer than I truly care to remember I knew there were holes in my technique. My theory wasn't really up for question since, I had none and have lived life in a dark place feeling rather worried that any knowledge in this area would change my style(?). A style that has seen me through all these years. Now, I'm sure I'm not unique and that there must be a good few guitarists out there sharing my entrenched fear of the unknown, a fear that really can be overcome without the powers of voodoo, black magic, witchcraft or Paul Mckenna.
Thumbing through my regular monthly fix of Guitarist I happened upon an ad for a Guitar Break weekend with Guthrie Goven, Neville Marten and Jason Sidwell. Being a complete virgin at such events I called a friend to see if he would also like to get some knowledge.
Corky, two highly polished guitars and I turned up at the venue, sat ourselves amongst 20 odd other like minded gunslingers and listened to our tutors with open minds. Wow! The whole fretboard has opened up! The fear gone! McKenna appointment cancelled! and more importantly both Corky and myself have a renewed interest in this beautiful instrument. The vigour at which I practice now is down to this one weekend and I'm not sure that it has changed my style one bit, merely added to it.
Guthrie, Jason, Neville...I bow to your knowledge and thank you for a weekend I will remember untill...eh...the next one.
What can I say?
Regards,
Edward Fermor
